Fundamental research programs aligned with the laboratory's current research areas are supported, and applications for both fundamental and interdisciplinary research are encouraged.1. Brief introduction about SKLAFMState Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber MaterialsSKLAFM is hosted by Donghua University, evolving from the former State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials. Since it was founded in 1992, significant achievements has been made in many fields such as attracting disciplinary talents, promoting the development of scientific research, constructing the research platform, expanding the academic communication under the guidance of the policy of SKLAFM, Openness, Mobility, Cooperation, Competition . SKLAFM has successfully passed national assessments in 2003, 2008 and 2013 and awarded the Excellent National Key Laboratory in the fourth national assessment in 2018. 2. The application object of Visiting Scholar FundThe Visiting Scholar Fund is used to support SKLAFM to hire well-known experts and scholars from home and abroad to carry out research and teaching work in SKLAFM, and to support preferentially interdisciplinary disciplines, emerging disciplines, and well-known scholars and experts with great influence at home and abroad, especially to encourage young researchers come to SKLAFM. Priority is given to funding the researchers who work with the lab to develop students. There are two types of visiting scholars in SKLAFM: scholars from abroad and scholars within the domestic rather than the school. The working hours of overseas visiting scholars in SKLAFM shall not be less than 2 months in principle, and the working hours of domestic and non-local visiting scholars in SKLAFM shall not be less than 4 months in principle.3. The application procedures and management measures of Visiting Scholar Funda) Application time According to the application guide. b) Application subjectIn accordance with the research directions of SKLAFM (refer to Section 4 of this guide), please fill in The Visiting Scholars Fund Application Form of State Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials Donghua University ,and submit two (2) original hardcopies with institutional seal, plus one sealed PDF scan to HYPERLINK "mailto:sklafm@dhu.edu.cn" \t "https://yiyan.baidu.com/chat/_blank" SKLAFM@dhu.edu.cn. The application form should be approved and sealed by the applicant s institute before submitting the proposal to SKLAFM. The project should be closely correlatedwith the present research directions of SKLAFM, which contains preceding, pioneering, feasible technical route and original research contents. Each project usuallylaststwo years.c) Project approval Each project can be wholly or partially supported 50, 000 to 100, 000 RMB by SKLAFM tentatively at the present stage. The specific amount of the funds will first be reviewed by expert group, then deliberated in the director office meeting, and finally determined by the academic committee of SKLAFM. The fully self-funded project should be examined and approved by the director of SKLAFM. The applicant will receive a notice after the project has been approved and signed by both the academic committee and the director of SKLAFM.d) Use of the Visiting Scholar FundsFund books should be set up and the funds should be used exclusively for the specific project by the applicant according to the Financial Regulations of The Administrative Regulations for Special Funds of State Key Laboratory , Donghua University on Government Sponsored Research Funds . The research funds will be allocated twice. The first 80% of the total funds will be disbursed once the project has been approved, while the rest will be issued when the applicant pass the acceptance ofproject. The rest of the funds can be used in the next year of the research period, but cannot be used for other purpose. The remaining funds should be returned to SKLAFM when the project is finished. If the project is supported by other sponsors instead of SKLAFM, the remaining funds should be returned to the original sponsors.Expenditure categories of the project: R&D expenditure directly related to the supported project;Academic activity expenditure (publication expenses directly related to the visiting scholar, printing and copying charges, the expenditure of attending domestic and international academic conference on behalf of SKLAFM);Business trip and accommodation expenses for the project participants coming from their home city to Shanghai;Other.e) Medium-term inspectionDuring the medium-term phase of the project, a medium-term inspection is conducted. Project leader should submit academic papers, research reports or stage summary according to the project s type and progress. If the medium-term inspection is qualified, the remaining funds will be allocated. However, if the project is interrupted for some reasons or the project has significant deviation from the progress plan, financial support from SKLAFM will be discontinued or terminated f) Rules of final research project The following materials must be submitted to the laboratory for archive when the project is finished or terminated.i. Final Research Project Report; ii. Photocopy of academic publications or patent.Final Research Project Requirements: Obtained the following academic and technical achievements: Significant results have been achieved on the basis of SKLAFM visiting scholar funding or higher level project funding (including jointly publishing high-level papers, jointly applying for and obtaining awards at provincial and ministerial levels and above, undertaking important projects at the national or provincial level, publishing academic monographs, obtaining international or national invention patents and their transfer and implementation licenses, industrial promotion, supporting military applications, talent plans, social services, etc.). The project leader must submit the closing report, which shall be reviewed and approved by the director's office. The specific requirements shall be subject to the project contract.SKLAFM will appropriate the rest 20% of funds for the applicants who finish the projects in time. Theapplicant who has the outstanding completion of the project will be sustained funded afterhe (she) applies for fund and gets theapprovalfromSKLAFM. The duration of sustained research project normally ranges from one to two years. When the project ends, the obtained related papers, patents, appraisal or review, the economic benefits of this project should be timely informed to SKLAFM. g) Notice about the ownership and transfer of project achievementSKLAFM and the institute of the visiting scholar share the achievement of this project. As for the project funded by SKLAFM, the related publication or patent transfer is required to obtain the agreement of SKLAFM. As for the project funded partially or wholly by other sponsors, the research contributors from all sponsors should be signed in the research reports, papers and patents. The publication or patent transfer is required to obtain the agreement from all sponsors. 4. Main research directions of the Visiting Scholar Fund supported by SKLAFM 1) High performance fibers and composite materials. Facing the critical national needs, we specialize in advancing large-scale industrial production technologies and developing innovative material systems for three key categories of high-performance fibers: High-performance carbon fibers (including T-series and MJ-series); Organic high-performance fibers (such as polyimide fibers, aramid fibers, liquid crystal polyarylester fibers, and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers); Inorganic high-performance fibers (including ceramic fibers, basalt fibers, and alumina fibers). The research covers the entire value chain, from raw material preparation and spinning processes to composite applications in vital sectors like national defense, aerospace, transportation equipment, and extreme environment exploration.2) Functional fibers and green manufacturing. Facing the pressing needs of economic development, we focus on driving the high-value transformation and green upgrading of the traditional chemical fiber industry. The efforts center on developing non-petrochemical raw materials (such as recycled waste chemical fibers and bio-based/bio-derived feedstocks) alongside innovative process technologies (including green wet/dry spinning solvents, melt spinning and direct melt spinning, and intelligent production line design). Additionally, we advance material functionalization (antibacterial, flame-retardant, and selective permeability properties, excluding energy conversion) and explore high-value-added applications in fields like biomedical engineering and environmental purification.3) Intelligent fibers and cutting-edge applications. Facing the forefront of global technological innovation, we focus on developing next-generation intelligent fiber materials that will drive future industrial advancements. The research encompasses functional fibers for converting energy forms, including semiconductor fibers, energy storage and conversion fibers, catalytic fibers, and sensing fibers capable of transforming energy forms such as photoelectric and magnetic energy. Simultaneously, we explore novel fiber manufacturing technologies, including innovative monomers, catalysts, and additives, as well as advanced polymerization methods and AI-driven material design paradigms. 5.
